Insidious Round About Book Banning

A law that was passed in January seems to be strangely under reported. That law concerns vintage children's books; it's illegal to sell them. Vintage meaning any book printed before 1985.

The reason given for this law has to do with lead content in ink.

This law has caused great confusion among libraries, book sellers, etc.

It's not as straight forward as it might seem; there's much more to this just below the surface.

Return of Phantom Clowns

Clowns digust me and creep me out, always have, and I realized something; my distaste has only become stronger over the years, which is a curious thing. Hmmm, wonder if it has anything to do with all of my UFO experiences?

I found this on Gatochy's blog/Flicker album. Gatochy has a few blogs, devoted in some way to vintage images; some of her blogs are in Portuguese. This was a great find. I was actually looking for something else -- vintage propaganda, for my new blog (yes, I know, you don't need to say anything!) Pulp Jello. I love the art work in this.

This is a ceilling light fixture for children, from the 1950s. I want this in my bedroom! (I would, too, if I could get away with it.)

Spaceship Under the Apple Tree

While we’re talking about children’s flying saucer books, my husband mentioned today that he remembers one of the first books he read when he was about six or seven, and that was Spaceship Under the Appletree, 1952. He remembered he liked it, and that the cover was green. So here it is:

It’s going for a quite a bit too, though not as much as Susie Saucer. Amazon.com has about half a dozen listings for the book, ranging from $31.15, to $94.91.
