In this chaos I found this self-published booklet by Kurt Glemser, a Canadian UFO researcher who published a few titles in the 1970s. I don't know much more than that:

There isn't an introduction, ISBN, or any information regarding publication except "Galaxy Press, 489 Krag St., Ontario N28m 1L2, Canada.

I did find a source on-line that gave 1973 as the publication date.

One of his publications: Glemser co-wrote The Men in Black with Robert Beneschan.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8035336917688477310.post-61527771439203430912017-01-16T09:47:00.001-08:002017-01-16T09:47:53.039-08:00Amethyst, Princess of Gem WorldI used to be a mild comic book nerd. Collected comics of female characters, and supernatural vibed characters, like The Shadow, Dr. Strange, X-Files, etc.

Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld, was one I collected. I know I still have these somewhere -- I hope. Haven't been in the comic book realm for a long time, so was surprised to find that this issue, depending on condition of course, is now selling between $400.00 (!) and $125.00. Time to go into my room full of boxes and search for my comics.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8035336917688477310.post-40825267082640266382016-08-08T17:50:00.000-07:002016-08-08T17:50:42.509-07:00Draco the Dragon Man

I'm a fan of cheesy cover art in just about all genres, especially vintage books and albums. I couldn't resist the cover so I picked it up; with a title like Draco the Dragon Man, (Cyril Donson,1974) I couldn't resist.

I expected the book to be bad, and wow, I was right! The writing is bad, as well as lurid. Which is to be expected. The sex scenes are so ridiculous. Donson, the author, loves TO WRITE LOTS OF WORDS AND SENTENCES ALL IN CAPS for some reason. Comma abuse is rampant as well as illogical. Oh, and exclamation points! All OVER, the, place! Everyone, is either shouting! Or YELLING, they all seem MAD! All the time! ALL the time!

But I was interested in the topic: underground reptilians. Reptilians as aliens, overlords, half human half beast, as monsters, as intelligent beings living in secret beneath our cities -- all fascinate me. This story however is your basic somewhat thin monster/horror story.

Cyril Donson, British writer, wrote westerns, sci-fi and even a book of poems. The latter which, I can only guess at that one.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8035336917688477310.post-60568499188748978982016-08-01T19:33:00.000-07:002016-08-01T19:33:26.997-07:00Ghost Hunters Find: Scholastic BooksA few years ago I bought this Scholastic Ghost Hunter "kit" at our book fair. I'd forgotten I had this - - found it while clearing out my bookshelves, my summer project.

Front of box: Ghost Hunter

The thing is kind of cheesy, I think it came with a little thermometer but that was gone when I opened the box. There was a plastic votive holder and battery operated candle, which still works.

Ghost Hunter Box: back side

I think there was a little book inside but if so, it's gone. Also included, cards of "ghosts" in various haunted locations. Some cards have text on the back. One example:

So much is out there about the limited return of The X-Files -- I can't possibly add anything anymore insightful or different. All I will say is that the three episodes shown so far have been fantastic. Classic X-Files, just excellent.

In the third episode, amongst the humor and "throw back" X-Files vibes, were "easter eggs" as Vulture.com refers to the many inside jokes and references in that episode. For example:

Every Easter Egg in X-Files Were-Monster Episode -- Vulture: Daggoo! Finally, we need to talk about Daggoo, the cute canine Guy Mann adopts and Scully later sneaks out of the animal shelter. This continues Morgan's trend of referencing Herman Melville's time-honored Moby-Dick. In the novel, Daggoo is one of the harpooneers on the Pequod, the ship captained by the tyrannical Ahab. In one of the Morgan-ghostwritten scenes for season three's "Quagmire," Scully likens Mulder to Ahab, and compares the agent's quixotic quest to Ahab's obsessive search for the great white whale. (Vulture.com)
One I noticed that the article didn't mention: when Fox Mulder is in Scully's motel room, standing by a fox head mounted on the wall.

It has been wonderful to have The X-Files back! Even if it is for a very limited run.

Recently saw the new Man From U.N.C.L.E. movie. Loved it, an excellent homage to the genre. Fun, classy, and the earrings! Also great soundtrack. Directed by Guy Ritchie, and all that you'd expect from a Guy Ritchie film.
The movie is based on the television series The Man From U.N.C.L.E. which I watched faithfully as a kid. I even joined the fan club! And in proper spy mode, I used a different name -- an alias, you know -- which for some reason infuriated my mother, as I remember.

My favorite genre seems to ghosts and paranormal themed movies. I'd add one thing to her conclusions about monster movies, while I agree, I'd say for me it's often I have some empathy for the monster and want to know more; what made it the way it is, etc. and hope that instead of just gleefully killing it something else can be done. On the other hand, sometimes you just can't reason with big scary monsters!

This is Men in Black, card #23, from the Saucer People boxed trading card set from Kitchen Sink Press, 1992. The set has thirty six cards, with comic book style illustration on front, and information about the UFO event or researcher on the back.

"Some believe them to be government agents, others think they are Saucer People."

I love the objectified female in distress; fearful of the Men in Black who are, apparently, being quite rude to her boyfriend. Tight red dress, frightened… who will rescue her? Or will the Men in Black get her?

The info on the back of the card has nothing to do with the image on the front; the story on the back tells us of George Cook, head of the Pennsylvania NICAP group, who had several run-ins with MIB in 1967.

I don't know the original sources -- where she's been finding them, but I've been enjoying them. Here's one; a vintage Space Age Lady. Don't know the decade but maybe late 1950s or 1960s?
Verily and meat appears to be on that bone. For Frank, it was a new first-hand witness to personally come forward and speak to him in several years. Frank called me almost immediately and explained the series of events.
.
He explained that this current "Monster" sighting report, according to the eyewitness, did not occur in Flatwoods at the time Mrs. May and the boys saw it on the Fisher Farm at 8:00 pm. Moreover, it did not even occur on the night of September 12, 1952!
I have about ten of those plastic magazine holders full of Fortean Times, UFO Magazine, Nexus, Fate, Strange, and other esoteric mags. A huge job going through the "room of doom" full of books and materials, all related to UFOs and general Fortean subjects. Here's a random issue I pulled: Fortean Times, May 1999. Next job: organizing all those issues! Or, and, I might start selling them off; haven't decided on that yet. In the meantime, it's been fun looking through them.

One of the articles in the May 1999 issue was Loving the Alien by Nigel Watson, artwork by Fabrice Parme, Alex Howe. The lead-in to the piece:

"UFOs were once thought to be probing our planet with a view to invasion and colonisation. Today's UFO occupants are more likely to be probing our bodies and minds. Nigel Watson doesn't think much of their chat-up lines but marvels at Their pulling power."
